ACL 2017 MD5 - Group D: Al Wahda v Al Rayyan preview

Published on: 22 April 2017

Abu Dhabi: Al Rayyan are aiming for a first-ever qualification to the AFC Champions League knockout stages ahead of Monday’s Group D fixture with bottom side Al Wahda at Al Nahyan Stadium.

Four points from two games against Persepolis helped Al Rayyan move into second place in the standings and a third win on the continent, coupled with Persepolis failing to beat group leaders Al Hilal, would seal an historic round of 16 berth.

Al Wahda are all but eliminated on just a solitary point but warmed up for the tie with a 1-0 victory over Al Sharjah in the Arabian Gulf League on Wednesday, while Al Rayyan were defeated 3-2 by Al Sadd in the Qatar Stars League a day later.

Mohammad Abdulbasit is suspended for the hosts but Sultan Al Ghafri returns after serving his ban, as does Abdulkareem Salem for the visitors.
