Osaka: Jiangsu FC will take a giant step towards qualifying for the knockout phase for the first time if they can record a third successive win in Group H of the 2017 AFC Champions League in Wednesday’s visit to Gamba Osaka.
An Alex Teixeira brace ensured a 2-1 victory over Adelaide United on Matchday Two after having earlier seen off Jeju United in their opening fixture. One point from their first two Chinese Super League games since their last appearance on the continent may have stalled momentum, but a return to winning ways at Suita City Football Stadium would stand Jiangsu in good stead at the midway stage in Group H.
Gamba, meanwhile, began their campaign in style as a 3-0 victory at Adelaide showcased their early credentials, only for a 4-1 home humbling by Jeju on Matchday Two to bring the 2008 winners back down to earth with a bang. Six points from two J.League games have since restored the winning mentality and a third win on the bounce would move Gamba level with Wednesday’s opponents.
