#ACL2017 Round of 16 Toyota Player of the Week: Teerasil Dangda

Published on: 25 May 2017

Kuala Lumpur: Teerasil Dangda has been named the Toyota Player of the Week after the Muangthong United captain superbly opened the scoring against Kawasaki Frontale on Tuesday before the Thai champions eventually suffered a 3-1 defeat in the first-leg of the 2017 AFC Champions League Round of 16.

The 28-year-old forward received the ball from Theerathon Bunmathan on the edge of the area before turning and firing low into the bottom right corner on the stroke of half-time for his fourth of the campaign.

Teerasil had two shots on target in the contest, while the Thailand international also created two chances, won four duels and delivered a highly impressive 91.67 percent passing accuracy in earning himself an 8.3 rating.

Next on the list is Persepolis's Sadegh Moharrami, whose 92.1 percent passing accuracy in the scoreless draw with Lekhwiya was higher than anyone who started the last 16 fixture as he received a rating of 8.2.

Currently in his first season in the AFC Champions League, the right-sided defender won five of his six duels and made six recoveries as the Iranian side ensured they will travel to Doha knowing an away goal will leave them in a strong position to advance.

Goalkeeper Kim Ho-jun secured an 8.1 rating to come third in the Toyota Player of the Week list after making a number of fine saves in Jeju United’s 2-0 victory over Urawa Red Diamonds on Wednesday to put the K-League Classic side in a commanding position to progress to a first-ever quarter-final on the continent.

In an outstanding performance, Kim saved all six shots he faced, while making two clearing punches in keeping a clean sheet that could be crucial ahead of the return fixture against an Urawa side that have been in free-scoring form in front of their home fans.

Back in the West, Qasem Burhan is the second player from the clash between Persepolis and Lekhwiya to feature in the top eight after the custodian’s excellent work between the posts ensured the visitors returned to Qatar without conceding.

With the score delicately poised at 0-0, Burhan dived to his left to deny the tournament’s top scorer Mehdi Taremi from the spot with 10 minutes to play before thwarting Vahid Amiri from close range soon after to earn a well-deserved 7.7 rating.

Completing the top five is Carlos Eduardo after the influential Brazilian scored the winner in Al Hilal’s come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Esteghlal Khouzestan.

The midfielder, who has now scored four goals in the tournament, boasted a passing accuracy just shy of 82 percent and had four attempts on goal to receive a rating of 7.6.

After netting in Al Ahli UAE's 1-1 draw with Al Ahli Saudi, Khamis Esmaeel also scored a 7.5 rating, while Kawasaki Frontale's Yu Kobayashi did likewise in a 3-1 win over Muangthong and rounds off this week's list.
