Aduana Stars striker Nathaniel Asamoah has attributed their sluggish campaign in Africa due to the lack of competitive action.

This was after an insipid display in the 1-0 win over Algerian side ES Setif in the CAF Champions League final qualifying round first leg tie.

The Ghana Premier League has delayed and the defending league champions have not had lots of games to test their readiness.

Aduana were involved in some pre-season matches but it looks those games were woefully inadequate.

"The delay of the league has definitely had an effect on us, because the more you play competitive matches the more you gain more playing fitness," Asamoah said on OTEC FM.

"Whiles we were lining up friendly matches, Es Setif was also playing in their local league, they played against their league leaders and beat them one goal to zero, so it boosted their confidence before coming to Ghana.

"We all know playing in the league is much different than playing friendly games. So this delay has really affect our team.''

Aduana Stars will travel to Algeria next week to face ES Setif in the second leg.
