Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation deeply condoles the passing of Malaysian assistant referee Hamzah Jaafar who died of heart complications on Thursday.

Football Association of Malaysia’s Referees Department Head Kassim Kadir Bacha was quoted as saying that the 36-year-old collapsed during a badminton fitness training session at the Royal Malaysian Navy base in Lumut, Perak.

Hamzah, who worked as a physical instructor at the base, was scheduled to be assistant referee during a Malaysia Premier League match between PKNS and Kuala Lumpur in Melaka on Saturday.

The thoughts and prayers of the AFC, Football Association of Malaysia and the rest of the Asian football community are with the family and friends of Hamzah.
