AFC Cup 2017 - Group B: Air Force Club 1-1 Al Wahda

Published on: 03 April 2017

Doha: Reigning champions Air Force from Iraq face a fight to qualify for the next phase of the 2017 AFC Cup despite a late equaliser from Ahmed Kadhim securing the Iraqi side a share of the points in a 1-1 draw with Group B leaders Al Wahda from Syria on Monday.

Khaled Mobayed struck from close range in the 22nd minute to give a dominant Al Wahda side the lead but Kadhim levelled with just two minutes of normal time remaining following Samal Saeed’s long punt forward to ensure both the teams picked up a point each.

The result leaves Al Wahda two points clear of Air Force and Bahrain’s Al Hidd, who defeated Safa from Lebanon earlier in the evening to pull themselves into contention in the group, with just two games remaining in the group phase.
