AFC Cup finalists Bengaluru to rely on Ralte

Bengaluru: Lalthuammawia Ralte is relishing the challenges that await as he gets set to stand in for JSW Bengaluru FC’s suspended first-choice goalkeeper Amrinder Singh in the AFC Cup final match against Iraq’s Air Force Club on July 5.

Singh picked up his second yellow card in the second-leg semi-final match against Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) with Ralte (pictured, left) now taking over the mantle at the post in the Indian club’s biggest game as they eye their first-ever continental club title.

“I have never been under pressure during my matches. The AFC Cup final is undoubtedly the biggest match of my career. Personally, it is the next biggest stage for me,” said Ralte.

“The team needs me to be at my best at this crucial moment and I will give my best.”

Ralte’s last time on the pitch was in March’s AFC Cup group game against JDT at home where Ralte played for the full 90 minutes but the I-League champions lost to JDT 1-0.

“It is frustrating to be on the bench, but I have learnt to accept it. This is how football is. You just have to be patient, work hard daily and wait for your opportunity,” Ralte added.

“Now this is my moment to perform well and make my team and country proud.”
