Bangkok: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa inaugurated the new Football Association of Thailand headquarters in Bangkok on Saturday alongside FA of Thailand President Pol. General Somyot Poompanmoung.

The opening of the headquarters, close to the famous Rajamangla Stadium, marks the first time that the FA of Thailand have owned their own ‘home of football.’

Shaikh Salman praised Pol Gen Somyot for the progress that he has made since becoming the FA of Thailand President and congratulated him on the opening of the new building. The AFC President said: “Today a dream comes true for the FA of Thailand

“It is a dream that, Mr President, you have turned into a reality. With your own money you have renovated this building. That is real leadership

“These headquarters are a true monument not only for the FA of Thailand but also to the new and dynamic administration that is running football in this great country.

“Clearly we must recognise the contribution of the Sports Authority of Thailand who have donated this building.

“But bricks alone do not make an organisation. What will drive the FA of Thailand is your determination and the determination of your staff to deliver a better future for the game in this country

“That determination and energy is already shining through with offices which will house all the departments here in Bangkok.’

Pol General Somyot added: “When we met the AFC President, Shaikh Salman, in Kuala Lumpur in November last year I promised him that I would leave a legacy for football in Thailand. Today marks the first step in realising that promise.”
