AFC Security Workshop for K-League Officers

Published on: 22 August 2017

Seoul: The Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) ongoing efforts to enhance the capabilities of its Member Associations were further emphasised at the Korean Football Association (KFA) on Monday with a security workshop conducted by the AFC Stadium Safety and Security Unit.

The workshop, the first of its kind conducted by the AFC, included 25 Security Officers from the first and second tiers of Korea Republic’s K League and outlined the roles and responsibilities of club security offers.

In line with AFC Club Licensing protocol, security officers from clubs due to participate in the AFC Champions League in 2018 were engaged in order to raise the quality of the competition, and ensure integrated safety, security and services throughout the event.

The officers were also familiarised with serious incidents from previous AFC and domestic matches, as well as AFC Safety and Security Regulations, international best practice and the most recent developments in the correct management of event security.

K League General Secretary Han Oung-soo, reiterating the importance of the club security officers, locally and internationally, said: “The workshop was a precious opportunity to improve knowledge of our officers and to be updated on international standard. I’m sure such a workshop will help to create safer football environments in K League and a more enjoyable atmosphere in the AFC Champions League in future”.

Also highlighted during the workshop was an awareness of the duties of match organisers before, during and after a match, with a particular focus on safety, security and quality event services.

Shin Mangil, the AFC Competitions Director, highlighted the importance of club development as the host organisers of the AFC Club Competitions. “Our clubs can always count on our support. We work together with our participating teams to make our event is successful in all areas.

“Despite of some of the challenges we face, we should work hard to maximise the enjoyment for our audiences and increase the value of our product by providing safe and friendly environments at our stadiums. Everyone present at the venue including teams, officials, media and fans should enjoy their participation. This, enjoyment, is a key factor”.
