AFC U-14 Festival for ASEAN in Brunei Darussalam ends

Bandar Seri Begawan: The AFC U-14 Regional Festival of Football for the ASEAN zone concluded in the Brunei capital on Saturday.

The closing ceremony was held at the Berakas Charity Field after the festival’s last match between Thailand and hosts Brunei Darussalam.

Dato Paduka Dr. Awang Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Muluk Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, was the guest of honour during the closing ceremony.

Pengiran Haji Mohiddin bin Pengiran Badaruddin, General Secretary of the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) said: “I’d like to welcome all to the closing ceremony and thank the AFC for the opportunity to host the festival. I’d also like to wish all teams the best in their future.” 

Dr. Shamil K. Mohammed, AFC Manager of Youth Development said: “Thanks to all players, coaches, AFC officials, NFABD, Local Organising Committee and staff at both stadiums for their tireless efforts and tremendous cooperation during the entire duration of the festival. 

“The festival gave a great opportunity to the players to develop their skills and knowledge. The future of Asian football is bright and I’m sure that the players will be part of this future. I hope all players will continue playing and progress to the next level, which is the AFC’s age-group competitions. 

Medals and Certificates of Participation were presented to the referees and all 180 players and 24 team officials from 10 participating teams - Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam. 

A total of 20 matches were played over four days of the festival that saw 121 goals scored.
