Riyadh: Uzbekistan remain firmly on course for a place in the AFC U-16 Championship 2018 Malaysia Finals after beating Sri Lanka in a Group A qualifying tie on Wednesday.

Having opened their campaign with a 1-0 win over Bahrain on Monday, Uzbekistan settled quickly against Sri Lanka at the Riyadh Sports Club.

Sri Lanka knew they were in for a tough 90 minutes, having already lost 6-0 to Bahrain and 7-0 to Jordan, and they were proven right.

They conceded a penalty after just four minutes which Jaloliddinov Jasurbek converted.

Jasurbek made it 2-0 just two minutes later and there was to be no comeback for Sri Lanka from that point although there were no further goals in the first half.

Uzbekistan were back at their menacing best in the second half as Mamasidikov Temur made it 3-0 in the 50th minute and Sabirov Daniyar added the fourth in the 70th.

Roziev Ruslan (79th) and Temur (90th) then wrapped proceedings up as Uzbekistan look towards their match against Jordan on Friday.

Hosts Saudi Arabia play Bahrain later on Wednesday.
