AFC U-16 Championship 2018 Qualifiers Group I: Vietnam 5-2 Cambodia

Ulaanbaatar: Vietnam started their bid to qualify for the AFC U-16 Championship Malaysia 2018 with a 5-2 win over Cambodia on Wednesday.

Vietnam started the match strongly as they took the lead in the ninth minute with Hoang opening the scoring.

Their lead, however, lasted four minutes only as Cambodia captain Ky Rina found the back of the net.  

In the 20th minute, Vietnamese captain Vu Tien Long was sent for an infringement in the penalty box and Cambodia were awarded a spot-kick. However, Ean Pisey missed from the spot.

Despite habing lost their captain, Vietnam started the second-half brightly. 

Eleven minutes into the restart, Vietnam took the lead for the second time as Vo Nguyen Hoang dribbled pass two defenders and scored from the inside box.

Vietnam doubled their advantage in the 68th as Ha Trung Hau scored just two minutes after coming off the bench.

Cambodia continued pushing and their second goa came through Ly Mael in the 74th minute, before Vietnam scored their fourth with Nguyen The Hung's shot finding the back of the net. 

Five minutes from the time, Vietnam midfielder Doan Chi Bao scored with a powerful shot to the top right corner of the goal to ensure Vietnam got off to a good start.

Australia will play Mongolia later on Wednesday.
