Hanoi: Australia edged closer to claiming a ticket to the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship 2017 as they topped Group D of the qualifiers following a 6-0 win over hosts Vietnam on Thursday.

The Vietnamese currently trail Australia by three points and now face the colossal task of beating their next opponents Hong Kong by a big enough margin to topple the Australians from top spot on goal difference and claim the single qualifying ticket available from the group. Australia do, however, also have to lose to Uzbekistan.

Meanwhile, Korea Republic leapfrogged the Philippines to top Group B after thrashing Northern Mariana Islands 11-0 also on Thursday.
