AFCON 2015: Algeria coach Gourcuff laments 'cruel' defeat at the hands of Ghana
Algeria will play in their last group game in Group C

Algeria coach Christian Gourcuff is lamenting the way Ghana defeated his side at the death to blow the Group of Death wide open at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

Africa's top rated side suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Black Stars in Friday's Group C match which has left their French coach reeling.

The Desert Foxes went into the game as the overwhelming favourites for the match with the Ghanaians parading youngsters as they are in the process of rebuilding the squad after a disastrous showing at the World Cup.

Despite being Africa's best side according to the FIFA ranking, Asamoah Gyan struck in the 92nd minute to secure the crucial win for the Black Stars as the four-time champions dominated the match.

Gourcuff says his side deserved to draw the match after holding the Black Stars tightly throughout the game.

"It is cruel to lose the match in the last minute, but that will not change our fundamental approach to the last game: even with a draw we would still have needed to win," said Algeria's French coach Christian Gourcuff, before blaming the conditions for his side's display.

"We never managed to get into any rhythm because of the state of the pitch and the weather conditions. In Malabo against Senegal, I think the surface will allow us to play a much more fluid game."

Senegal need a point from their last Group C tie to reach the African Nations Cup quarter-finals after drawing with South Africa while Ghana raised their hopes with a late winner against Algeria on Friday.

Senegal are top with four points followed by Algeria and Ghana on three and South Africa on one with one match to go.

All four countries have a chance to qualify but a draw against Algeria in Malabo on Tuesday will be enough to take the Senegalese through.

Victory for Ghana over South Africa at the same time in Mongomo will also earn them a ticket to the last eight.
