Leicester manager Nigel Pearson has revealed that his defender Jeffery Schlupp failed to appear at the Ghana camp in Spain to be examined by the Black Stars doctors because he was medical experts advised against his travel because of the knee setback.
The left-back was a key part of Ghana coach Avram Grant's plans for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations next week but was ruled out of the competition in Equatorial Guinea because of the injury.
Ghana ordered injured duo of Schlupp and Abdul Majeed Waris to report in the camp before he named his final 23-man squad for the competition.
Waris turned up to be examined by the Ghana camp but Leicester revealed that Schlupp could not travel to join the Black Stars camp in Spain for examination because doctors warned him against the travel.
“Jeff Schlupp has not been named now in the Ghanaian squad due to his injury. He didn’t go. He was not able to fly because of the injury. Hopefully it won’t be too long,†Pearson told the club’s official website.
“I am disappointed for him that he can’t join up. Jeff had an independent examination on Tuesday and they have made their decision.
“I suppose when he is back that is better for us. It is unfortunate for him and Ghana, but I suppose there weren’t any guarantees he was going to be in the squad.â€
Schlupp has now been ruled out of the 2015 African Cup of Nations.
The 22-year old will not play for Ghana in the CAF tournament in Equatorial Guinea after suffering a knock on his knee in the New Year’s Day draw with Liverpool the Foxes have confirmed.
