The Black Stars of Ghana produced a strong performance to see of challenge of Mauritius in grand style. A lot of positives from the game but GHANAsoccernet’s Rahman Osman highlights the talking points of the game.
- Lateral defenders Baba Rahman and Harrison Afful score full marks: Afful and Baba were at their attacking best just as they were during the Africa cup of nations in Equatorial Guinea. No wonder both got an assist to their name even though they could have had more. Baba in particular is singled out for his ability to find an attacker even in the cutest of positions. He could have racked up more assist had skipper Gyan been more ruthless on the day. In a defensive wise both were given an off day with Mauritians giving little in attack
- Jordan Ayew has finally come of age:
Jordan Ayew has finally come of age not only at the club level but at the national level. His movement on and off the ball has been the best you will around at any level, yes it was Mauritius but he still had to combine effectively with Gyan to make this an easy game.
Got two goals and he will be kicking himself not to have pushed for more or for least a hat-trick. But got an assist to shelve of assertions that he is a selfish player.
- Ghana’s midfield continues to be our trump card:
Ghana’s midfield was good at all level both the central midfielders and the wingers all combined effectively to sniff out any danger that the Mauritians managed to create.
Wakaso is now the boss of the midfield with his passing and tackling improving by game.
Emmanuel Agyemang Badu did himself a million of good with discipline which has often been his deficit coming full circle in this game. Great game by all standards.
- Mauritius were poor on the day:
Mauritius will have to up their game if they are to qualify for their maiden edition of the Africa cup of nations. They are miles away from the Black Stars but their capitulation after conceding the first two goals is alarming. Skipper Jonathan Bruce spoke about the intensity and fire to qualify but on this account where the basics are difficult to hold on to it is almost impossible to see how they will qualify from this Group
5 The jury is still out on Braimah;
Black Stars goalkeeper Razak Braimah was again given the nod to man post in the game against Mauritius and again failed to fully convince the masses on his true potential.
Was culpable for the Mauritius goal and his decision making left more to be desired.
He Will know better that the goalkeeping department is one area that is yet to be decided and any antics with not be tolerated.
