Dushanbe: The development of Afghanistan football received another boost when the U-15 team claimed the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) U-15 Boys Tournament title after defeating Uzbekistan 3-2 on Sunday.

Afghanistan took an early lead, courtesy of Samir Samandari’s seventh minute goal but Uzbekistan’s Husain Norchaev found their equaliser seven minutes from half-time.

Syed Hadi Kazimi’s side doubled their advantage in the 63rd minute, before Syed Asghar Hussaini’s 80th minute goal put the young Afghans in a comfortable position. Alibek Davronov’s goal two minutes later proved to be a mere consolation as the Afghanistan defence stayed solid to secure the victory.

Currently ranked 155th on the FIFA rankings, the Afghans are proving to be a football powerhouse with a strong youth team after three wins against higher ranked Tajikistan, Kyrgyz Republic and Uzbekistan, and one loss to Turkmenistan in the other matches they played in the CAFA U-15 tournament.
