Cameroon legend François Omam-Biyik has ruled out the chances of the African representatives reaching the semi-finals at the 2014 World Cup.

The continent will be represented by five countries including Cote D’voire, Ghana, Nigeria Algeria and his native Cameroon.

Nigeria, Ghana and Cote D’voire are largely seen as the teams that could reach the last four of the world elite competition due to their pedigree on the African landscape.

However, Oman-Biyak, who played at three World Cup finals in 1990, 94 and 98, says none of the continent’s reps can go far in Brazil.

“We don’t have formidable teams that can compete in World Cup, at this year’s competition, we have five teams representing the continent but only one of them might qualify for the quarterfinals,” he said

“This happens mostly because we have mentality of picking players to compete in African football and select another different side when playing in World Cup.

“Indomitable Lions don’t have strong players that can beat the South America teams and Croatia not even with Samuel Eto’o because he plays different for Cameroon compared to Chelsea.

Many are rooting for the Black Stars to become the first country on the continent to reach the semi-finals following their progressive performances at the mundial in 2010 and 2014.

A Luiz Suarez late, late handball denied the West Africans the chance to make it into the last four in South Africa four years ago.
