Afriyie makes u-turn over influenced Black Stars selection allegations

Opoku Afriyie accused Ghana FA officials of influencing team selection

By Ameenu Shardow

Ex Team manager of the Black Stars Opoku Afriyie has denied accusing Ghana FA officials of meddling in the selection of coach Akwasi Appiah.

Afriyie is captured on tape as saying: “The coach is not left to do things his way. Ghana FA officials influence selection.

“They do it to the foreign coaches so how much more a local coach like Akwasi Appiah.

“Coach Appiah finds it very difficult to call up Samuel Inkoom for instance because some officials just don’t want him to be called.”

But the ex Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak player has beat an incredible retreat by saying he never made such comments.

“I never said officials make selection for the Black Stars coach,” Afriyie said in his latest interview.

“How could I have made such comments? My words have been twisted.”

Afriyie is unlikely to go scot free with these contrasting comments which certainly impugns the credibility of the Black Stars coach and Ghana FA officials.

The ex Ghana international is currently part of the technical team of the national U23 side, the Black Meteors.

Akwasi Appiah has maintained since his appointment last year that he takes all decisions surrounding team selection.

But doubts have now been raised with these comments made by the ex ‘insider’ who was with the Black Stars for almost a decade.

He’s been called BAYIE, GOAL MACHINE. He’s spoken and there is lie in what he said. Besides, its not new that the Ghana FA have been doing things that they are supposed to be doing. Such as taking money from local players in order to get them invited to the national team. Nyantakyi and his cohorts directing each and every coach that has the oppoprtunity to coach the national team. Its about time the step down entirely and also AA MUST STEP TO THE SIDE BEFORE GHANA SOCCER CAN PROGRESS. CORRUPT FA

  7. cool says:

This is the main reason why Ghana are seeing a decline in Ghana Soccer.Players like the Ayew brothers and other quality players abroad would not be invited because they would not succumb to this Bull Shit of paying bribe to represent the nation.I think it is about time we innvestigate the GFA and it’s stupidity. Please get rid of this moron Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi. As for AA, I feel sorry for him

  8. samuel says:

It is time to sack nyantakyi truth to God, what afriyie is saying is truth but I do not no why he is fear of gfa. Its time for all ghanaian to make changes, we don’t want nyantakyi any more. Make him go and stay at home.
