General Secretary of Al Khartoum Fouad Nagga insists the club is not ready to release Ghanaian coach Kwesi Appiah to go ahead to coach the Sudanese national team.
The 55-year-old is being pursued by officials of the Sudanese FA to become the replacement for Mohammed Abdullah Mazda who resigned following the side’s 4-0 defeat to Gabon in the 2017 AFCON qualifiers over the weekend.
Appiah has emerged the preferred choice for the Sudan FA due to his vast experience and impressive exploits with Al Khartoum.
The former Ghana captain qualified and led the Black Stars to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil having led the Ghana U23 side to gold at the 2011 All Africa Games.
But a disappointing first round exit from the 2014 World Cup – primarily causes by off the field issues – eventually cost Appiah his job with Ghana.
He was months later snapped up by Al Khartoum on a three-year deal and is so far performing to the satisfaction of the club officials.
Al Khartoum who are now third in the Sudanese top flight now say they are not ready to let Kwesi Appiah go as he is in the middle of completing his ongoing transformation of the side.
"We have a three-year project and he is having a good mark with the team," Fouad Nagga told Asempa FM.
"I don't think he [Appiah] is ready to change and move to another team.
"He is doing very well and he has performed beyond expectations within a short time.
"Absolutely, I can say confidently that he has transformed the side and we will like to have him for a long time."
Appiah will hold clear the air talks with his employers on his return to Sudan on Friday after making a trip to Ghana to attend the funeral of his late playmate and friend George Arthur.
