Aitor Karanka says he is 'not sure' if Albert Adomah will be involved for Middlesbrough at Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

The winger was left out of Boro's 18-man squad that beat Burton Albion 2-1 this evening, as two goals from Cristhian Stuani helped the Teessiders book their place in the Capital One Cup third round - where they will host Wolves.

Adomah's absence was the talking point after Boro's victory at the Pirelli Stadium, amid speculation that the Ghana international has had a fall-out with Karanka this week.

And the Spaniard refused to be drawn on Adomah after the match, adding he's "not sure" if he will be recalled for Saturday's trip to Hillsborough.

When asked about Adomah's absence, Karanka said: "It was my decision. He's not injured, I have to take 18 players and today I thought that the 18 players I brought were the best to win the game.

"We've won the game so for this reason it's the most important thing, and I want to speak about the players who are here.

"I don't know, I prefer to speak about the players who've been here today and to say how pleased and how proud of them I am. Let's see what happens."
