Video: Kotoko's Alex Asamoah set to sign for Ismaili of Egypt

Asante Kotoko striker Alex Asamoah is on the verge of signing for Egyptian Premier League side Ismaili.

Asamoah, also a Zamalek target, opted to join the coastal club after being advised by his compatriots in Egypt.

He claims the club's Barcelona-style of football convinced him to join the Dervishes.

"I was approached by Zamalek earlier but I turned down the offer after Rahim Ayew (ex-Zamalek) warned me,'' Asamoah told FilGoal.

"Ayew told me that African players have no role at Zamalek in the meantime.

"But my friend Eric Bekoe (former Kotoko and current Petrojet striker) advised me to join Ismaili. He told me that they play like Barcelona!

"I also chose Ismaili over offers from Gulf clubs because I feel that the Egyptian league could be my way to Europe."

Asamoah arrived in Ismailia on Wednesday and is expected to sign a contract this week.
