Alexis Sanchez: Thierry Henry didn't say leave Arsenal for Man United

The ESPN FC crew look back at the Alexis Sanchez transfer saga.

Alexis Sanchez insists Thierry Henry played no part in his decision to leave Arsenal for Manchester United.

The Chilean referenced a conversation with Henry in an Instagram post explaining his decision to quit the Emirates for Old Trafford.

The Frenchman came under fire from some Arsenal fans, who believed Henry had influenced Sanchez. It prompted Sanchez to issue a statement insisting that was not the case.

I want to clarify that Henry never told me to leave the club, it was a personal decision ... he LOVES the club and someday it would be nice to see him as the arsenal coach because he loves the club ...

He tweeted: "I want to clarify that Henry never told me to leave the club, it was a personal decision. He loves the club and someday it would be nice to see him as the arsenal coach because he loves the club."

Henry left Arsenal for Barcelona in 2007 before going on to win two Spanish titles and the Champions League during three seasons at the Camp Nou. The 40-year-old, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has also hit back at the claims made by some Arsenal supporters.

He said: "I know I don't need to explain this to the majority of Arsenal fans but contrary to speculation at no time did I tell Alexis Sanchez to leave Arsenal. I had no idea he was going to sign for Man United until I saw it on the news like the rest of you."

Sanchez left Arsenal for United this week in a swap deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan after three-and-a-half years at the club. After the deal was completed on Monday night, the forward issued a statement to the Arsenal which kicked off the controversy.

Sanchez said: "I remember today, a conversation I had with Henry, a historic Arsenal player, who changed club for the same reason and today is my turn."
