Allegri: Napoli win was not easy

Published on: 13 February 2016

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has praised the performance of his team in their 1-0 over fellow Scudetto chasers Napoli on Saturday.

The win puts the Bianconeri one point above the Partenopei in first place, and Allegri was keen to stress the possible importance of the win.

“Winning this game was not easy, it’s important that we lead the league right now, but there are still 13 games left this season.” said Allegri after the match to Premium Sports.

“It was a very tactical game between two teams that deserve to be where we are. Napoli played well, but we did not allow them to create anything.

“We had a good chance with [Paulo] Dybala and then we scored. The players were very good, especially the way they slowed Napoli’s play, in fact, they only created two chances over the course of whole match.”

Furthermore, Allegri said that this win could have a big effect on his team’s confidence. “We’re in this position because we have won 15 games in a row, the players should take great pleasure from this.

“This match was an important test, we had to prove that we’re capable of winning the Scudetto and the players were good. It’s a nice boost to our confidence and self-esteem.”

The former AC Milan coach was also asked if he had feared Napoli before this game. “I did fear the speed at which Napoli play, in open play they can be devastating with they players they have. We did well to limit the space they had.

“We could have done better in some occasions, but we played with great authority, we read the game right and managed the game well.

“The team has grown a lot, it’s about them. The guys have believed and we believe we can win the Scudetto, now we have to rest and regain energy because the players put a lot of effort into tonight.

“We just played a game at a lightning intensity and now we have to recover.”

Finally, Allegri said that he was pleased that he stopped Simone Zaza from leaving after he scored the winner in tonights match.

“I’m glad I stopped him leaving. At the end of the year the difference will be made by the depth we have in our squad. Now we have a match against Bologna and then against Bayern Munich. “
