American-born Ghanaian Gyasi Zardes struck the opening goal for LA Galaxy when they drew 2-2 with Adam Kwarasey's Portland Timbers in the Major League Soccer.Â
The 23-year-old gifted attacker netted in the 65th minute to cancel Fanendo Adi's had raced the host into the lead at the Providence Park in Oregon.
Midfielder Vayrynen’s skill on the ball resulted in a goal as he found Jose Villarreal who delivered a pinpoint cross to Gyasi Zardes for the Galaxy’s opening goal. Villarreal's cross was incisive and Gyasi arrived in time to pounce on the ball before Kwarasey could reach out to make a catch.
Kwarasey had had his team got ahead twice with Nigerian Adi scoring between Gyasi's goal and a last-gasp strike from experienced American Alan Gordon.
The goal was Gyasi's first of the season in two games while Kwarasey's Timbers are still without a win from their opening two goals.
Gyasi could be eligible to play for Ghana however he has already committed his assurance for the Americans after featuring for them in international friendlies against Chile and Panama.
He is the second Ghanaian to play for the Americans in recent times after grandson of former Ghana international Nana Agyeman Gyau - Joe Gyau.
