Anaba counts on Kotoko's pedigree to power African campaign

Asante Kotoko midfielder Michael Anaba says the team will draw inspiration from its pedigree in Africa to progress on the CAF Champions League.

The Ghanaian champions have been drawn to play Equatorial Guinea side Sony Nguema in the first preliminary round of the competition that kicks off early next year.

Kotoko are looking to make a significant impact on their return to Africa's flagship competition.

And Anaba is looking to capitalize on the side's previous achievements to power their campaign in Africa.

"This is not the first time a club like Kotoko is playing in the Champions League so we hope to use our pedigree in the competition to achieve something," he told Radio Gold.

"Even though I personally don't know much about them (Sony Nguema) I expect the technical team to gather enough information to map out a strategy to beat them.

"For us as players, ours is to remain focused and play to the instructions of the coaches against any side we meet."

Kotoko will host Nguema on February 17 in the first leg of the tie with the return encounter expected to be played a fortnight after.
