Football analyst Kofi Asiedu insists Akwasi Appiah is bound to fail in his new post as head coach of the Black Stars.

Appiah, 51, was on Monday appointed as the substantive replacement for Serbian Goran Stevanovic after weeks of head hunting.

The settling on the ex Black Stars captain by the Ghana FA came as a surprise to many despite his familiarity with the team as an assistant coach since 2008.

He has since his appointment had many words of support from key members of the team, the Ghana FA and other eminent personalities but Asiedu believes it is only a grand scheme geared towards Appiah’s failure which will finally finish off any future hopes of local coaches being given the nod.

“Let me start this conspiracy theory. They (Ghana FA) are up to a mission,’ he told Takoradi-based Melody FM.

“They know Kwasi Appiah will fail and at the end of the day they will sack him and that argument of  local coaches being competent will be put to the shelve.

“They know he will fail and therefore they are giving him all the support for him to fail. So that Kwasi Appiah who is the well-placed local coach fails they can go in for the foreign coaches.

“What this appointment only shows is that the GFA is broke. The Black Stars job is a $20,000 job and therefore it comes with the kind of coaches we can attract.

“People go on about how a top post the Black Stars job is but we cannot go in for the top notch coaches because the GFA just cannot afford it an this is a fact.”

Appiah who led a team full of locals to an historic gold medal feat at the 2011 All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique will be unveiled as Black Stars coach at an organized press conference in Accra on April 17.
