Marseille midfielder Andre Ayew touched down in Accra Wednesday night to contest the 2011 Caf African Player of the Year award.

The 22-year-old Ghana international will be in contention with Mali's Seydou Keita (who is also in town) and yet to arrive Ivorian Yaya Toure.

Ayew's chances of winning the award looks very bright after being named the BBC African Footballer of the Year last week.

And his camp is very optimistic going into the awards on Thursday night at the State Banquet Hall in Accra.

"Andre arrived alongside his briother Jordan last night for the awards in very high spirits," Family spokesperson Fiifi Tackie told GHANAsoccernet.com.

"God willing after the ceremony, a deserving new king of African football which will be Andre will emerge."

If successful, Andre Ayew will be the first Ghanaian in eighteen years to win the award.

His father, Abedi Pele was the last Ghanaian to win the gong in 1993.
