Ghana ace as revealed that he knew instantly Swansea City would be a perfect fit.

The Ghana international was linked with a host a big-name clubs over the summer as he prepared to leave Marseille as a free agent.

But he ended up signing for Swansea after meeting the club's hierarchy and hearing their plans for the future.

"I spoke to the manager and the chairman and they told me what the club wanted to do," said Ayew

"I can feel that the club are ambitious and I'm an ambitious person too. As soon as I had a discussion with the manager I knew it was the right place for me.

"Sure, there were other clubs but that's in the past. I've taken my decision and I know why I'm here.

"Hopefully we can continue to do well and it will be a great decision."

Ayew put in an encouraging display on his Swansea debut, battling fearlessly throughout and using the ball intelligently as Garry Monk's men built attacks.

And the 25-year-old made a major mark on his first game by scoring an equalising goal after 29 minutes.

When Bafetimbi Gomis met Jefferson Montero's cross, Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois produced a fine save.

Then the ball fell to Ayew and his first shot was blocked.

But the versatile attacker showed impressive composure to shift inside and fire into the net.

Ayew admitted it was a huge boost to move off the mark in his maiden outing

But he insisted team success is the main objective.

"The goal is quite important although scoring is not my first job. The most important thing is to help the squad win," said Ayew.

"To get a goal is good for the confidence. Like I said, the guys have really helped me settle in, so if I score it's thanks to them.

"But we need to keep working hard and then we can get even better results in the future.

"I never set myself a goal target. My target is for Swansea to win the maximum games. My first aim is to help Swansea."

Garry Monk's men sprang a shock to hold the reigning champions in their own backyard.

And Ayew believes there is the potential to achieve something major this season.

"I really hoped for a good result, that was what was important for me," he added.

"We had a good game on Saturday. It was difficult because they are the champions, but it was the first game and we were ready.

"We knew it was going to be complicated, but we have to stay focused, concentrate and hopefully win the next game.

"We have a great squad, some really good football players. We need to continue working hard and not get swollen-headed.

"We're going to fight every game and every minute on the pitch.

"I know we have great players and they have helped me settle in really well."
