Paul Merson, Phil Thompson, Charlie Nicholas and Matt Le Tissier watch the Premier League's finest every week on Soccer Saturday - but they couldn't quite agree on the star performers in the opening six matches with only three players making all four sides.

Riyad Mahrez unsurprisingly gets the nod from each of the pundits after scoring five goals in Leicester's unbeaten start to the season.

Manchester City's Vincent Kompany also attracts overwhelming praise having marshaled five successive clean sheets before being sidelined last weekend, when Manuel Pellegrini's men slipped to a 2-1 home defeat to West Ham.

Fernandinho is the other player to gain recognition from all four, having returned to his best in the heart of the league leaders' midfield. He has completed more passes and tackles than any other Manchester City midfielder this season.

Not a single Arsenal, Tottenham or Chelsea player is included in any of the sides, while Luke Shaw is a popular pick, having impressed before suffering a broken leg in Champions League action.

Paul Merson's team of the season so far: Butland, Darmian, Kompany, Dann, Shaw, Mahrez, Noble, Fernandinho, Payet, Aguero, Vardy.

Paul Merson has picked two Manchester United full-backs, having seen them rack up three clean sheets, while he includes Sergio Aguero despite last season's top scorer netting just once in the current campaign. The Magic Man said: "Yes, he has only scored one goal, but his energy is outstanding. He occupies defenders, allowing other players to flourish."

Scott Dann also gets the nod following a string of commanding performances for Crystal Palace, along with a goal and an assist.

Phil Thompson's team of the season so far: Hart, Clyne, Kompany, Reid, Shaw, Ayew, Fernandinho, Barkley, Mahrez, Vardy, Gomis.

Phil Thompson is the only pundit not to have included West Ham's Dimitri Payet in his line-up despite the Frenchman's three goals and two assists, while his Liverpool loyalties were put aside to see Everton's Ross Barkley preferred.

Thommo does include Reds right-back Nathaniel Clyne, who has slotted seamlessly in at right-back, along with Winston Reid following an impressive start for West Ham.

Matt Le Tissier's team of the season so far: Hart, Clyne, Kompany, Martin, Shaw, Mahrez, Fernandinho, Silva, Payet, Montero, Wilson.

Matt Le Tissier opts for four Manchester City players dominating the spine of his side, while Russell Martin is recognised for his contribution of three goals from centre-half for Norwich.

The Saints legend is also the only pundit to pick Callum Wilson despite the Bournemouth striker currently sitting joint top of the scoring charts with five goals.

He is also the only one to select Swansea's flying winger Jefferson Montero, while he includes two former Southampton players but none from their current crop.

Charlie Nicholas' team of the season so far: Butland, Nyom, Kompany, Dann, Gomez, Noble, Fernandinho, Payet, Mahrez, Wilson, Ayew.

Charlie Nicholas is the only pundit to pick Liverpool's young left-back Joe Gomez ahead of Shaw, while he also opts for Allan Nyom, who has helped Watford rack up three clean sheets.

Mark Noble gets the nod from both Nicholas and fellow former Gunner Merson, having netted twice since inheriting the captain's armband at Upton Park, while he agrees with Thommo in including Swansea new boy Andre Ayew.
