The winner will be announced a week later on 16 December on the BBC's Sport Today programme.

BothManchesterCitystriker Yaya Toure and Arsenal midfielder Gervinho starred forIvory Coastas they qualified for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations by winning all their matches.

Toure scored the winner for Manchester City as they won the FA Cup while Gervinho was instrumental in Lille's double inFrancebefore he moved to Arsenal.

Ayew, who is one of Ghana's key players, helped Marseille to win the French League Cup and Super Cup whileMali's Seydou Keita was part of Barcelona's historic Champions League winning team.

Eto'o netted 21 goals for Italian side Inter Milanbefore leaving for Russian Anzhi Makhachkala in August and has scored seven goals in eight matches so far this season.

The shortlist was determined by a panel of experts across Africawho took into consideration individual skill, technical ability, teamwork, consistency, impact on results and fair play.

"This shortlist reinforces the importance of African footballers toEurope's top clubs. It will be intriguing to see who triumphs in the end," the BBC's African Football blogger Piers Edwards said.

Last year's winner Asamoah Gyan narrowly missed out on the shortlist.

I think de arguement about Gyan playing in a less superior league is baseless. Is Eto'o not also playing in Russia? Is dat league competetive? NO! Masa Gyan's football is going down. Dat is wat i fink.

if a selection is made objectively, Ayew has to win it. if we look at achievements from last season, contribution to the national team as well as club performances, individual performance, i believe Ayew stands out. unfortunately, being objective is not how we operate in Africa. we like big names playing for big clubs. so Yaya will take it.

This what I hate about Ghanaians, from politics to work,to much talking while doing no implimentation. Ah! If u want somebody to win,why don't u go straight and do the voting or would the too much talking change anything? Mtcheew. I have done mine, have u? I hate to campaign so I wont tell u who I voted for but remember to be honest in the voting. I am a Ghanaian and I vote based on pure performance and nothing else.

The BBC African Footballer of the year mostly goes to an English Speaking country, whiles the CAF footballer of the year goes to French Speaking country's. Reason is simple BBC is more tilted to English speaking Fans than The French. So GO DEDE, GO AYEW

In terms of objectivity, Gervinho deserves the award. This is a guy who scored 18 goals in all compitition and made over 10 assist playing for a small club like lille. He also made more assist in the AFCON qualifiers than any other player.Anyway, it will be nice to see a Ghanain win the award so am voting with my heart. Hope Dede wins!

well i think dede should be the winner of this award.dede is very young but has proove that age has nothing to do with performance, this will help the young players to sacrifice more.
