Ghana winger Andre Ayew admits English legend David Beckham is a great player but claims he was not inspired by the Ligue 1's grandfather.

The Marseille playmaker could come face-to-face with Beckham (37) who is on a five-month short term contract with the French money-bags at the Parc des Princes as Marseille clash with PSG on Sunday.

At just 23, Andre has won the BBC African player of the Year, became the first captain to lead an African side to success at the Fifa U20 World Cup and has also made a World Cup appearance after playing at the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa.

Beckham is one of the world's most decorated footballers after winning several club and individual awards.

Andre admits the prospects of playing against the Manchester United legend could be an honour but he never really dreamt about playing against him.

"This is a great player. When I was young, I watched on TV, I saw him do great things and win big trophies but this is not my idol. It was not a dream to play against him," he told OM.net.

Andre has been voted Marseille's player of the month of January and is also in contention for Ligue 1 player of the month award.
