Andre Ayew offered to play for free for Liverpool before joining Premier League rivals Swansea City, according to The Sun.

It has been reported by the British tabloid that the 25-year-old forward contacted Liverpool in the summer transfer window in order to a secure a move to Anfield.

The Ghana international’s agents reportedly told the Reds’ chiefs that he would play for free until January to prove himself at the club.

However, Liverpool’s transfer committee did not accept the offer, according to The Sun, and Ayew subsequently joined Swansea on a free transfer, having left French club Marseille at the end of the 2014-15 season.

Bad decision from Liverpool?

Having the chance to sign a very good player on a free transfer and without paying wages for half the season would be a dream scenario for many clubs.

Liverpool should have accepted the offer put on the table by Ayew’s agents, as they would have had nothing to lose.

It is still early days in the Premier League for Ayew, but the former Marseille star is already proving to be a hit for Welsh outfit Swansea.

In four league appearances for the Swans so far this season, the Ghanaian attacker has scored three goals and has created six chances.

Ayew has a pass accuracy of 80% and a shot accuracy of 54%, and he has won four headers, three dribbles and five tackles.
