Swansea City star Andre Dede Ayew has set a new Ghanaian record in the English premiership as the first Ghanaian player to win the award after Tony Yeboah in 1995.
The Swansea City striker Ayew was named player of the opening month after making an impressive impact since arriving on a free transfer from Marseille in the summer.
The deputy Black Stars captain has scored three goals and provided one assist in his first four Premier League appearances as Garry Monkââ¬â¢s side have made an impressive unbeaten start to their campaign, which has included a win over Manchester United and a draw at Chelsea.
Tony Yeboah became the first Ghanaian international to win the award winning the March 1995 Player of the month award after he scored five goals for Leeds United in five games bagging a brace against Leicester and Chelsea, and scoring once against Coventry to help Leeds win all the aforementioned matches.
Tony Yeboah won the Player of the month again in September 1995 and that was the last time a Ghanaian won it.
Tony Yeboah scored five in three games including a hat trick against Wimbledon which was the second and last of Yegoala's two hat tricks in the EPL. The other came against Ipswich.
Andre Ayew has since become the first Ghanaian player to win the coveted award after the Leeds United legend after Micheal Essien, Sulley Muntari, Kevin Prince Boateng, Albert Adomah, and recently Christian Atsu and Jeffery Schlupp have all had stints in the Englishà Premier League but they all failed to win it.
