Ghana midfielder Anthony Annan returns to Schalke

Ghana midfielder Anthony Annan has returned to Schalke after failing to secure a move away from the German Bundesliga side.

The 24-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem, was eyeing a permanent stay with the Dutch club.

But he has been recalled by Schalke and has already started pre-season training with the Royal Blues in Gelsenkirchen under coach Huub Stevens.

This comes after Vitesse failed to raise the two million Euros demanded by Schalke for them to release the Ghanaian player.

Annan was tipped to exit the club after failing to make the grades at the Veltins Arena when he landed at the club in January 2011.

He helped Vitesse to secure a qualification spot to play in the UEFA Europa League for the upcoming season.

Annan could still depart the club before the transfer window shuts at the end of August.
