Osasunaââ¬â¢s Medical head Dr. Patxi Cipriáin has revealed Anthony Annanââ¬â¢s injury is serious than earlier diagnosed though the player wouldnââ¬â¢t require surgery.
The Ghana international injured his ankle while on international duty in the lead up to the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
Annan however came on as a second-half substitute in Ghanaââ¬â¢s opening group draw against DR Congo where he appeared to have worsened his injury to effectively end his Nations Cup campaign.
The on-loan Schalke player is however yet to play a match for Osasuna two-months after rejoining the side from international duty.
The clubââ¬â¢s medical head; Dr. Cipriáin now reveals the player has suffered a fracture in his talus (ankle bone) â⬓ leading to frequent pains whenever extra stress is put on the injured ankle.
"The player has had persisted discomfort in the ankle,â⬠Dr. Cipriáin has revealed.
ââ¬ÅThe radiological evidence we have reveals a fracture.
ââ¬ÅHe (Annan) however does not have to undergo surgery or specific treatment, just rest.ââ¬
Dr. Cipriáin adds the player is prevented from training actively but will continue to work in the gym until the persistent pain goes away over a not too specific period.
"He will continue to train in the gym until pain issue is resolved.
ââ¬ÅWe cannot know exactly how much it will last: four, two, five weeks ... We think about four.
ââ¬ÅIt is a painful thing but more than importantly the player cannot be training with that pain.
ââ¬ÅHe walks alright with no pain, but when running, jumping, hitting- when you produce more stress to the ankle, he feels more pain."
Annanââ¬â¢s injury situation serves a massive injury concern for Ghana coach Akwasi Appiah as the ex Hearts of Oak player have proved an integral figure in the side in recent years.
