Ghana midfielder Anthony Annan has been linked with a return to the Norwegian side Rosenborg BK, GHANAsoccernet.com understands.

The 27-year-old will quit German side Schalke 04 in January after a two season spell with the Royal Blues and Rosenborg who sold him to Schalke in 2011 want the midfield fan-belt to return to the club.

Rosenborg manager Per Joar Hansen is a long-standing admirer for the former Hearts of Oak playmaker and is ready to move for him in January.

But the Norwegian Tippeligaen runners-ups are facing competition from Dutch side Heracles Almelo as they have also penciled down the midfielder.

Heracle reportedly tried to land Annan on loan two seasons ago from Schalke when his loan spell with Vitesse Arnhem expired.

Schalke have agreed to mutually terminate the contract of former Ghana regular as he had failed to break into the first team squad since returning from Osasuna on loan.

Annan is keen to revive his career which has surprisingly hit a downward spiral despite his abundant talent.

He has dropped down the pecking order in the Ghana squad and is regarded as an outsider in Kwesi Appiah's likely squad for the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
