Ghana midfielder Anthony Annan was named on the Schalke bench for the first time this season in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Hannover in the Bundesliga.

The 27-year-old is doing enough to convince head coach Jens Keller who has registered him for the UEFA Champions League campaign.

Annan recovered from a niggling ankle injury before the winter break and could soon return to action for the Royal Blues.

His contract runs out at the end of the season but the decision to remain at the Veltins Arena means he has got a future there.

Annan’s last competitive match was in March last year during a loan spell at Osasuna.

He played for Schalke in their winter pre-season friendly against Qatari side Al Gharafa in the 2-1 win last month.

Annan is an outsider to make Ghana’s squad for the FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil.
