After having spent last two seasons playing for FC Basel, 38 years old former Argentinian international centre-back Walter Samuel announced having quit professional football as a player. Nicknamed The Wall for his superb defensive skills, Samuel had previously worn shirts from Inter (from 2005/06 to 2013/14), Real Madrid (2004/05), AS Roma (from 2000/01 to 2003/04), Boca Juniors (from 1998 to 1999/2000) and Newell's Old Boys (from 1995/96 to 1997), as well as having collected 56 caps for Selección.
