English giants Arsenal and Manchester City have reportedly increased their interest in 18-year-old Ghanaian midfielder Godfred Donsah who plays in Italy.

The young Ghanaian, who has already been approached by Premier League rivals Tottenham, is having an impressive season at Serie A side Cagliari.

And Arsenal and City have acted first, sending scouts to watch the holding midfielder in Cagliari's 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan on Monday.

The midfield enforcer has made inroads into Cagliari's first team this season, after a £2million move in 2012.

And Cagliari are keen to see him remain with the Sardinian club where they feel he will grow into a hot prospect.

President of Cagliari, Thomas Guilini said: "It's not just City, even Arsenal were here to see him but I want to keep him here another year.

"It is better for his development too to stay here one more season."

And Cagliari may be offered some respite, as reports suggest there may be complications with the Ghana Youngster obtaining a work permit, which may lessen interest from the Premier League's top clubs.

Donsah has scored twice in 14 games for Cagiari, and has previously been at Palermo and had trials at AS Roma.
