Rennes will be due 25% of any deal that sees Ousmane Dembele move from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona.
Ligue 1 side Rennes are on the verge of smashing a club transfer record without even having to sell a player.
If Ousmane Dembele moves from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona there will be handshakes all round in Rennes’ boardroom.
The reason?
If Ousmane Dembele moves Rennes are owed 25% of any transfer fee Dortmund make from selling Dembele, according to Mundo Deportivo
Records are made to be broken
Rennes’ record sale currently stands at £13.5m, when Yann M’Vila move to Russian Premier League side Rubin Kazan.
Dembele’s £10.8m move to Dortmund is the club’s second biggest sale while Asamoah Gyan’s £9.9m transfer to Sunderland is third.
So if Dortmund do get their full asking price then Rennes would have more than doubled their record sale without having to lift a finger.
Dembele is one of the latest off Rennes’ academy production line that is also responsible for the talents of Tiemoue Bakayoko and Yoann Gourcuff.
Christian Gourcuff’s side, who finished ninth in Ligue 1 last season, kicked off their campaign with a 1-1 draw with Troyes.
But the manager will have nothing to worry about if the windfall comes in, apart from cramping up from all the cheques he’ll be writing out.
