Asamoah Gyan has arrived at Sunderland ahead of his proposed move from Rennes to the Premier League club.

Gyan caught the eye at the 2010 World Cup after scoring three goals for his country Ghana in South Africa.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce is keen to bolster his frontline before the transfer window closes at 6pm on Tuesday, and Gyan has emerged as his top target.

It is understood that a deal in the region of £12million could be in the offing, set to be rubber-stamped following a medical and the agreement of personal terms.

The 24-year-old joined Rennes from Udinese in 2008 and he has since scored 14 goals for the club.
