Asamoah Gyan breaks hat-trick jinx

Posted On Sunday, 7th October 2012

Asamoah Gyan scored his first career hat-trick last Friday

Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan’s three goals over the weekend was the first hat-trick since starting his playing career abroad.

The 26-year-old scored the three goals on Friday night as his club Al Ain thrashed Al Dhafra in the UAE top-flight.

Despite playing abroad for ten years now as a striker, the influential player had not scored three goals in a game prior to Friday’s game.

But he broke that gremlin to move to the top of the scorers’ chart with seven goals in four matches.

This came just a day after CAF excluded him from a 34-man list for the African Player of the Year award despite topping the scoring charts in the UAE last season and winning the league.

Gyan started his foreign career with Italian side Udinese in 2003 before going out on loan to rivals Modena.

He also played for Rennes, Sunderland before sealing the lucrative move to Al Ain.

  1. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

GYAN SHOULD HIT THE WEIGHTS. AA SHOULD UNDERSTAND THAT GYAN IS GETTING OLDER N HE IS ONLY SCORING IN BUNCHES BECOS HE PLAYS IN A MEDIOCRE LEAGUE. THEREFORE, AA MUST CALL STRIKERS LIKE AFFUM, CLOTTEY AND BOAKYE YIADOM. WARRIS IS ANOTHER ADIFUDEY STRIKER PLAYING IN A MEDIOCRE LEAGUE…

  2. maxwell says:

poster u mean gyan have play wen he was 16 yrs old in europe right lie lie kill u idiot

  3. nana says:

i just dont want to believ that ghanasoccernet is the PRO of asamoah gyan..every blessed day..asa gyan…what at all is he doin that has never happened before…besides,he is in one of the easiest league in e world…evn glo premier league in ghana is very difficult as compared to UAE league…let me tel u..asamoah gyan is there for money oo not for awards so if he wants an award..he shd com to europe or africain league..

  4. Dr Who says:

@GH FUO,so now Gyan is also not a good striker bcos he plays in UAE? So is Waris bcos he plays in Sweden? So now we should agree that Drogba,Eto & Seydou Keita are not good players so that is why they are in China & Russia? If that is the case then Mikel is the best player in Africa.Followed by Mayuka of Zambia and Wakaso Mubarak of Ghana.

  5. D Light says:

    D first career
HAT-trick for the self acclaimed ‘AFRICAN Best” & ‘Gh ever BEST’ striker?
Well i’m not surprise at all! I’ve always said d mediocre is below average… A beneficiary of Gh’s inability to produce potent strikers in the last decade after ABEDI & YEBOAH. I kip asking myself abt d Traits of Gyan… N can’t find anything ! His aerial, dribbling n shooting technique is average, and he above all lacks d intelligence to make territorial runs & dashes to convert visionery-threaded balls. His runs r always vertical widout cautions to an offside Trap. Give him shadow passes n he will blame u for not giving him a direct pass, i.e Atsu gave him 3
defence-splitting passes against MALAWI n he failed to make d diagonal runs… Passes World class strikers wld applaud n convert.
Our younger players like Dede, Kpb , Acosty, Waris, Afum n et cetera hav proven they can score hattricks in their competitive leagues… against Technical & Tactical oppositions. They’ve proven they don’t Nid a Fragile league, or PK’s to score a treble hence nid to b Legendised.
Dat is why FIFA wldn’t recognise Nasser Al- Shamrani among the ‘HALL OF FAME of the Fastest Hat-trickers’ though he scored a faster hat-trick unda 10min for
Al shabab… Dan KP Boatengs 14min hat-trick strike for Milan against Lecce….
The reason Meno Menezes of Brazil wldn’t even think of including VICTOR SIMOES of Al Ahli in his Olympic squad despite being Brazils top scorer dan all brazil strikers wit 32 goals. THE reason Mohammed salem Al- Enazi was not nominated for the Fifa PUSKAS award, despite scoring a very beautiful long ranger from the center line for Al-Wahba against Al Sharjah.
So u see, its definitely no News if Gyan Scores a Hat-trick or Was snubbed by Caf in the Nominations for the African Best Award. Those who play in those league r not recognised… Dat is why u see majority of those players not making it into their National Teams despite their headlines.

Jose Sand, David Trezeguet n Luca Toni who r in the Twilight of their careers cancelled their contracts just a season to move to Mexico, Argentina (river plate) n Italy (fiorentina) respectively… b’cos the league was Horrible- nothing competitive, Only money! Any one who hav watched the UAE LEAGUE wld aknowledge my point- a league full of old men, partime players (students&sherrifs) n bunch of Technical n Tactically inept wannabee players! Yet we still hail the Blasphemer to the xtent of begging him out of his
self- imposed exile. When r we going to GROW? Inferiority complex has constipated our brain to xtent dat, We refuse to Migrate our thoughts…

  6. Vaky says:

ASAMAOH GYAN LEFT SUNDERLAND WHEN HE WAS DOING WELL. HE DISAPPOINTED GHANAIANS (AND AFRICANS) ON AT LEAST THREE OCCASIONS:CAN 2008, WC SOUTH AFRICA 2010 AND CAN 2012 SEMI-FINAL.IT WAS BETTER HE TOOK THAT BREAK. HE HAS A LOT OF POTENTIAL AND NEEDS TO WAKE UP AND BE UP AND DOING. ALL THE GUYS DOING WELL NOW SHOULD BE FOCUSED. BLACK STARS SHOULDN’T BE JUST A TEAM OF STARS WHO CANNOT WIN TROPHIES LIKE OUR NEIGHBOURS. GHANAIANS CAN’T WAIT ANY LONGER FOR GLORY AT THE SENIOR LEVEL. THE TIME HAS COME AND CAN 2013 SHOULD BE THE GATE OPENER! GOD BLESS GHANA.

  7. selfmade says:

That’s wassup my man!! Keeping scoring that goals and keeping making that arab petrol dollars because at the end of the day, money talks!!! I love this dude, because he is all about his money and that makes u an astute businessman and one of the best in managing your career well whiles thinking about your future!! Big up to u my son and stashed the bank with a lot of dollars!!!!! I love u babe forever jet!!!! Is not only strikers who score goals!! Viva the revolutioncion!

    • Robb says:

As long as he is doing what he is paid to do, why should we bother? After all he scoring every week.
Not every striker score goals week in and week out. Goal king last season and leading goal scorer this season. Is not that enough?
