Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan could be sentenced for 25 years if found guilty of rape and unlawful sexual act by the Police.
A 22-year-old university lady named Sarah Kwabla has filed a case at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at the Ministries Police Station in Accra.
The Unit has begun investigations into the matter after the plaintiff reported the case on Tuesday.
But Gyan has not been charged.
National DOVSSU Head, ACP HabibaTwumasi Sarpong confirmed to Accra-based Joy FM.
“If a rape case is true according to the code then the defendant will receive a sentence between 5 to 25 years in jail at the prerogative of the judge,†she said.
It will be recalled that Gyan’s raunchy relationship with the lady became public on Wednesday when a newspaper published a story of an attempted blackmail by the victim.
According to the publication, lawyer for the Al Ain star man had reported the lady to the Odorkor Police but it has emerged that lawyers for Asamoah Gyan had rather filed a case of attempted blackmail.
The Odorkor police closed that case after the two parties agreed to resolve the matter amicably.
