Asamoah Gyan to fight Kwadwo Asamoah, Sulley Muntari for top Ghana award

Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan will fight his team-mates Kwadwo Asamoah and Sulley Muntari for Ghana's Best Footballer of the Year award.

The foreign-based trio has been shortlisted by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) for the coveted award.

The three players have been named for the 2013 award thanks to their contributions to the successes of the Black Stars and their club sides.

Asamoah Gyan was the top scorer in the UAE top-flight and also helped the Black Stars to qualify to a third successive World Cup.

Muntari was also part of the Black Stars squad that qualified for the World just like Kwadwo Asamoah who helped Juventus to win the league title.

The SWAG Awards which come off on 17th May 2014 at the State House will see some international guests like the Brazilian Ambassador to Ghana, Lamin Diack former IAAF President and Boris Becker, the former German Tennis King.

About 900 guests are expected to grace the 39th Awards to be sponsored by communication giants MTN, which is strictly by invitation.

Meanwhile, the grand launch of the event has been fixed for April 22, 2014 at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium.

The footballer of he flagship award of Sports Personality of the year is a contest between Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah, Black Stars Captain Asamoah Gyan and Juliana Arkoh who won eight medals – six silver and two bronze at the 2013 African Championships in Morocco.
