Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan’s goal was not enough to help Shanghai SIPG as they crashed out of the Chinese FA Cup to Demba Ba’s Shanghai Shenhua on Wednesday.

The league leaders had to fight from two goals down plus a late equalizer to force the game into a penalty shootout after it ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw in regulation time.

Shanghai SIPG missed two of their five regular kicks to hand progress to their crosstown rivals who recorded a 100% conversion from the spot.

Gyan scored in the 56th minute with a well-placed header to pull his side level for the first time in the game having fallen two goals behind within the first 26 minutes.

Moreno got the home fans buzzing after just nine minutes as his overhead kick found its way into the net from the edge of SIPG’s penalty area.

Wang Yun made it two in the 26th minute after volleying in a defensive punch from the visiting goalkeeper outside the area.

Wu Lei then got Sven-Goran Eriksson’s side back into the game with a fine finish two minutes later before Gyan scored off his head to even the scores 11 minutes into the second half.

Demba Ba scored a close range classic to restore Shenhua’s lead before Dario Conca forced the game into penalties when his long range free kick managed to elude everyone from a crowded box to end up into the net.

Shanghai Shenhua’s success in the shootouts see them progress to the last four of the Chinese FA Cup.

Both teams will be facing each other again at the weekend in the league clash.

Gyan's SIPG lost 5 - 4 in the shootouts.
