Asamoah Gyan under pressure to replicate scoring form at Nations Cup

Asamoah Gyan says he is under pressure to score goals at the Africa Cup of Nations

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan says he is under some form of pressure to replicate his form at club level at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

Gyan scored an incredible 21 goals from 13 matches in the first round of the United Arab Emirates Etisalat Pro League.

He is one short of equalling the 22 goals he scored to win the golden shoe award last season for the UAE champions.

Gyan admits he will be expected to repeat his form at the tournament after a disappointing spell in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

“There might be pressure because people expect you to do more,” Gyan said.

“If you don’t deliver then people might say your form is due to lack and that is the challenge. Sometimes it puts a bit of pressure on me.”

Ghana’s first match will be against DR Congo on 20 January in Port Elizabeth before matches against Mali and Niger in Group B.

    Hmmmm…fear factor, the excuses begins……

  2. Jusco Chikubabe says:

If Gyan, had played for Sunderland for many seasons, he was going to be a household name in England and to us who follow the epl. He started brightly, but what drove him out of UK was a big mistake to a minnow league. Hope he can put his penalt misses behind and stay focused. If he can get a goal from the opening match, then he gonna have a good tournment!
