Kwadwo Asamoah became the third Ghanaian player to secure Champions League progress on Wednesday night.

The 23-year-old played the entire duration to help Juventus to a priceless 1-0 victory at Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Italian champions needed only a draw to secure progress with Shakhtar already through to the Round of 16 at the start of the night.

But a 56th minute strike by Sabastian Giovinco was more than what Antonio Conte’s side could have bargained for as they end up winners of Group E with 12 points.

The Ukrainian club finished as runners up with defending champions Chelsea failing to get out of the group despite a 6-1thumping of bottom club Nordsjaelland.

Asaamoah now joins Christian Atsu and Michael Essien who secured progress with FC Porto and Real Madrid respectively on Tuesday.
