The Ghana Football Association is set to appointed CK Akunnor as coach of the men's Olympic team, according to reports in the local media.
His assistant will be Michael Osei, who is now in charge of Liberty Professionals.
Akunnor's stock has risen after his exploits with AshantiGold in the Ghana Premier League.
The ex-Ghana captain has moved his former club from the relegation zone with nine matches to the end of the season.
Ghana have not qualified for the Olympic Games football tournament since 2004.
The next tournament will be played in the city of Tokyo where the multi-sport event will be held in 2020.
