Premier League club AshantiGold are likely to boycott the proposed pre-season top eight competition later this month, according to reports in the local media on Wednesday.

The Miners are reported to have been unhappy about the omission of their Croatian coach Zdravko Lugarovic from the Premier League Coach of the Year shortlist.

Lugarovic guided the Obuasi-based side to the second position from a parlous 11th place when he took charge.

Sources also say the club are exasperated for not being duly recognized for the achievement last term.

Goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda lost the accolade to Berekum Chelsea's Ernest Sowah despite conceding the least of number of goals in the top flight.

The club are protesting what they suspect was an unfair treatment meted out to them.

The competition kicks start on 28 August.
